Eggs are easily replaceable in your meals and baking. You don’t need to gather flax seeds or use chick-pea water (aquafaba, although both work well) to recreate the same recipes you’ve always loved. Here we’ve compiled some of our favourite go-tos!

Baking Without Eggs

The volunteer team at Hen Rescue can highly recommend Orgran’s No-Egg Egg Replacer for all your baking needs. You can buy it at Woolworths! If you’re in the middle of baking and don’t have it handy, try the tips in the image above: banana works brilliantly, and vegetable oil and baking powder are staples in any pantry.

What About The Eggs I Collect from my Hens?

Try feeding the eggs back to the hens – they love it! You can simply crack the egg into their normal feed and they will devour it in seconds, and you can also crush the shell of the egg and give back to the hens to eat instead of grit.

Layer hens have been bred to lay an unnatural amount of eggs and this takes it’s toll on their bodies. By feeding eggs back to the hens they can get back some of the nutrients they have lost. Once an egg is cracked the hens know there is no chick inside and will happily chow down. After what they have been through it is the very least we can do.
