It is essential to have a good vet for your chickens lined up, as by the time chickens are showing symptoms of ill health it is usually time for immediate treatment. Have a read through our article on finding a good vet for your chickens for more advice.

IMPORTANT NOTE – Some vets in Sydney that are advertised as ‘avian vets’ will see chickens and ducks, but refuse to prescribe them antibiotics as they view them as ‘food producing birds’. This is even after we have explained the animals will never be used for food and their eggs will not be eaten. This attitude is unacceptable and for us resulted in the death of an animal who could’ve been saved. Before you book an appointment with any vet please check if they are willing to prescribe antibiotics such as amoxyclav, doxycycline or enrofloxacin to chickens, if that is what is needed.
